Take Up Your Cross
Day 3 — Take Up Your Cross
Scripture:
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” — Luke 9:23
Reflection:
In Gospel of Luke 9, Jesus tells His disciples that He will suffer and die (Luke 9:22). Then He explains what following Him means.
“Take up your cross.”
In Jesus’ time, the cross was a tool for death. It was not decoration. It meant giving up your own way.
Jesus says this must happen daily.
Discipleship means saying, “Not my will, but Yours.”
It means choosing obedience even when it is hard.
It means letting Jesus be in charge.
The Bible says in Galatians 2:20 that we are crucified with Christ. That means our old way of living no longer rules us.
Observation:
• The invitation is open — “If anyone.”
• It is daily — not once a year.
• It requires denying self.
• It always leads to following Jesus.
Life Application:
Where do you want your way instead of God’s way?
Discipleship grows when we surrender control.
Prayer Prompt:
Father, help me choose Your way over my own today.
Action Step:
The next time you feel frustrated today, pause and ask, “What would obedience look like right now?” Then do that.
