REMEMBER

Daily Journey 9

REMEMBER

Praise Before the Battle Is Over

Theme: Worship is not reserved for the moment when every battle is won. We can praise God in the middle of the struggle because His character has not changed.

Pause

Yesterday, Psalm 8 invited us to look upward and stand in awe of God’s majesty.

Today, awe becomes worship.

David is still living in a world where enemies exist, injustice remains, and trouble has not disappeared.

Yet he begins with praise.

Sometimes we postpone gratitude until something changes.

When the answer comes.

When the problem is solved.

When the battle ends.

David shows us another way.

Before reading, think about what God has already done in your life.

Remember His faithfulness.

Then let remembrance become worship.

Prayer

Father, help me remember Your faithfulness today. When present difficulties consume my attention, remind me of what You have already done. Give me a heart that praises You not only after the victory, but while I am still waiting. You have been faithful before, and I trust You to remain faithful now. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Scripture

Today’s Psalm invites us to remember God’s wonderful works, trust His righteous judgment, and praise Him even while we are still waiting for deliverance.

Psalm 9

I Will Recount Your Wonderful Deeds

[a] To the choirmaster: according to Muth-labben.[b] A Psalm of David.

9  I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;

  I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.

2  I will be glad and exult in you;
    I will sing praise to your name, O Most Hig
h.

3  When my enemies turn back,
    they stu
mble and perish before[c] your presence.

4  For you have maintained my just cause;

  you have sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment.

5  You have rebuked the nations; you have made the wicked perish;
    you have blot
ted out their name forever and ever.

6  The enemy came to an end in everlasting ruins;
    their cities you rooted out;
    the very memory of them has perished.

7  But the Lord sits enthroned forever;
    he has established his throne for justi
ce,

8  and he judges the world with righteousness;
    he judges the peoples with uprig
htness.

9  The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed,
    a stronghold in times of trouble
.

10  And those who know your name put their trust in you,
    for you, O Lord, have
not forsaken those who seek you.

11  Sing praises to the Lord, who sits enthroned in Zion!
    Tell among the people
s his deeds!

12  For he who avenges blood is mindful of them;
    he does not forget the cry of
the afflicted.

13  Be gracious to me, O Lord!
    See my affliction from those who hate me,
    O
you who lift me up from the gates of death,

14  that I may recount all your praises,
    that in the gates of the daughter of Z
ion
    I may rejoice in you
r salvation.

15 The nations have sunk in the pit that they made;
    in the net that they hid, t
heir own foot has been caught.

16 The Lord has made himself known; he has executed judgment;
    the wicked are sn
ared in the work of their own hands. Higgaion.[d] Selah

17 The wicked shall return to Sheol,
    all the nations that forget God.

18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten,
    an
d the hope of the poor shall not perish forever.

19 Arise, O Lord! Let not man prevail;
    let the nations be judged before you!

20 Put them in fear, O Lord!

Read It Again

As you read Psalm 9 again, notice how often David remembers.

He remembers God’s works.

God’s justice.

God’s protection.

God’s care for the oppressed.

Then ask:

  • What does this Psalm reveal about God’s heart?

  • What has God done in my past that I need to remember today?

  • Have present circumstances caused me to forget previous faithfulness?

  • Can I worship before I know the outcome?

Pay particular attention to David’s declaration:

“I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart.”

Not halfhearted gratitude.

Wholehearted worship.

Pursuing His Heart

Today’s Revelation of God’s Heart

God’s heart is faithful and just; He remembers the afflicted and remains a refuge for those who seek Him.

Carry this truth with you throughout today’s journey.

Psalm 9 begins with a decision:

“I will give thanks.”

David does not say:

“I feel thankful.”

He says:

“I will.”

Sometimes worship begins as a decision before it becomes an emotion.

David deliberately remembers God’s wonderful deeds.

Why?

Because remembering changes perspective.

When today’s problem becomes the only thing we see, fear grows.

But when we place today’s problem beside yesterday’s faithfulness, hope returns.

David also describes God as a refuge for the oppressed—a stronghold in times of trouble.

Notice that carefully.

God doesn’t promise there will never be times of trouble.

He promises to be a stronghold within them.

David can praise because he knows God’s character.

God sees injustice.

God remembers those who suffer.

God does not abandon those who seek Him.

The battle may not be finished.

But God’s faithfulness is already worthy of praise.

Seeing Jesus

Jesus gives us the ultimate reason to remember.

At the cross, what appeared to be defeat became God’s greatest victory.

Sin was confronted.

Grace was extended.

Death was defeated through resurrection.

Whenever present circumstances tempt us to believe God has forgotten us, we can look back to the cross.

God has already demonstrated the depth of His love.

And because Christ rose, our hope is not dependent upon today’s circumstances.

We remember.

And remembrance becomes worship.

Truths to Hold Onto

  • Worship can begin before circumstances change.

  • Remembering God’s faithfulness strengthens present faith.

  • God sees and remembers those who suffer.

  • God is a refuge in times of trouble.

  • God’s justice will ultimately prevail.

Life Application

What has God already brought you through that you have stopped remembering?

Today’s difficulty does not erase yesterday’s faithfulness.

Remember.

Then worship.

Walking Deeper

  • Deuteronomy 8:2 — God’s people are repeatedly instructed to remember how He has led them.

  • Psalm 46:1 — God is our refuge and strength, always present in trouble.

  • Hebrews 13:8 — Jesus Christ remains the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Prayer Prompt

Lord, I remember Your faithfulness today. Thank You for the prayers You have answered, the doors You have opened, the storms You have carried me through, and the grace You have given me. Help me praise You while I am still waiting because Your character is worthy of worship regardless of my circumstances. Amen.

Today’s Step

Write down three moments when you clearly experienced God’s faithfulness.

Keep the list somewhere you can see it.

When worry rises today, read it again and say:

“The God who was faithful then is faithful now.”

❤️ Heart Check

Head

What does God’s past faithfulness teach me about my present situation?

Heart

Have I allowed today’s trouble to make me forget yesterday’s grace?

Hands

How can I intentionally praise God before my circumstances change?

Reflect. Evolve. Lead.

Reflect

Remembering God’s faithfulness changes the way I interpret today’s difficulties.

Evolve

As remembrance becomes a spiritual habit, fear gives way to gratitude and trust.

Lead

Today I will help someone else remember God’s faithfulness by sharing a story of what He has done.

Carry This With You

Yesterday’s faithfulness is evidence for today’s trust.

Remember.

Give thanks.

Keep trusting.

Tomorrow’s Journey

Today you remembered God’s faithfulness and praised Him even while the battle remained.

Tomorrow, David will ask a question many faithful people have whispered:

“Why, O Lord, do you stand far away?”

We’ll discover what faith looks like when God seems silent.

Until tomorrow…keep walking with Him.

One Daily Journey. One Psalm. One surrendered heart. One step closer to His heart.
