DISCIPLESHIP IN A SELF-CENTERED WORLD
DAY 16 — DISCIPLESHIP IN A SELF-CENTERED WORLD
Scripture
Luke 9:23
Matthew 16:24
Philippians 2:3–5
Reflection
Modern culture teaches: “Put yourself first.”
Jesus teaches: “Deny yourself.”
These two paths cannot coexist.
“If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself…” (Luke 9:23)
Self-centered thinking is not just cultural—it is natural. Everything in society reinforces self-promotion:
personal branding
self-care elevated above sacrifice
individual preference as ultimate authority
But Jesus calls for a reversal.
“Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves…” (Matthew 16:24)
This is not self-hatred—it is surrender of control.
Paul adds:
“In humility count others more significant than yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3)
The narrow path runs directly against the cultural flow.
Application
Where is self-centered thinking shaping my decisions more than Christ-centered obedience?
Prayer
Jesus, teach me to deny myself and follow You fully in a self-centered world.
