Not Just Cultural Christianity
Day 8 — Not Just Cultural Christianity
Scripture:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven…” — Matthew 7:21
Reflection:
These words come from the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew 7. Jesus warns that saying the right things is not enough.
Some people claim His name. Some even do religious works. Yet Jesus says He never truly knew them (Matthew 7:23).
That is strong language.
Cultural Christianity means identifying as a Christian because of family, tradition, or community — but not truly surrendering to Christ.
Discipleship is personal.
It is not inherited.
It is not automatic.
It is not based on where you live or where you attend.
It is built on knowing Jesus and doing the will of the Father (Matthew 7:21).
Observation:
• Words alone do not prove discipleship.
• Religious activity alone does not prove relationship.
• True disciples obey the Father’s will.
Life Application:
Is your faith based on habit — or relationship?
Do you know about Jesus, or do you truly know Him?
Discipleship moves from cultural identity to personal surrender.
Prayer Prompt:
Lord, I want real faith, not empty religion.
Action Step:
Spend time today talking honestly with God. Not formal words — just real conversation.
