Not Just Behavior Change
Day 7 — Not Just Behavior Change
Scripture:
“For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” — Romans 8:2
Reflection:
In Epistle to the Romans 8, Paul explains something very important. Following Jesus is not just about trying harder to behave better.
The law shows us what is right. But the law cannot change our hearts. Only the Spirit can do that.
Behavior change without heart change does not last.
You can train a child to say polite words. But you cannot force love into their heart.
In the same way, discipleship is not just cleaning up actions. It is allowing the Holy Spirit to change us from the inside.
Ezekiel 36:26 says God gives a new heart and a new spirit. That is deeper than behavior. That is transformation.
Real discipleship is not about pressure from the outside.
It is about new life on the inside.
Observation:
• The Spirit gives life (Romans 8:2).
• The law alone cannot produce righteousness (Romans 8:3).
• True change begins in the heart (Ezekiel 36:26–27).
Life Application:
Are you trying to fix yourself by effort alone?
Have you confused spiritual growth with rule-keeping?
Ask God to change your heart, not just your habits.
Prayer Prompt:
Holy Spirit, change me from the inside out.
Action Step:
Instead of focusing on stopping one bad habit today, ask God what heart issue is underneath it.
