TEACHABLE
Daily Journey 25
TEACHABLE
Show Me Your Ways
Theme
A surrendered heart eventually becomes a teachable heart. Instead of asking God to bless our path, we begin asking Him to show us His.
Pause
Yesterday, you opened the gates to the King.
Today comes the next question:
Now where do I go?
There is a difference between asking:
“God, will You come with me?”
and:
“God, where are You leading so I can follow?”
Psalm 25 is the prayer of someone who knows he still has much to learn.
Before reading, release the assumption that you already know the way.
Prayer
Father, make me teachable. Show me Your ways, teach me Your paths, and lead me in Your truth. Where pride has made me stubborn, humble me. Where fear has made me hesitant, steady me. Where past failure creates shame, remind me of Your mercy. I want to follow You. Amen.
Scripture
Today’s Psalm invites us to entrust ourselves to God, receive His mercy, and become humble enough to follow where He leads.
Psalm 25
Teach Me Your Paths
[a] Of David.
To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, in you I trust;
let me not be put to shame;
let not my enemies exult over me.
3 Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame;
they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.
4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
teach me your paths.
5 Lead me in your truth and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all the day long.
6 Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.
7 Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me,
for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!
8 Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
9 He leads the humble in what is right,
and teaches the humble his way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.
11 For your name's sake, O Lord,
pardon my guilt, for it is great.
12 Who is the man who fears the Lord?
Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.
13 His soul shall abide in well-being,
and his offspring shall inherit the land.
14 The friendship[b] of the Lord is for those who fear him,
and he makes known to them his covenant.
15 My eyes are ever toward the Lord,
for he will pluck my feet out of the net.
16 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged;
bring me out of my distresses.
18 Consider my affliction and my trouble,
and forgive all my sins.
19 Consider how many are my foes,
and with what violent hatred they hate me.
20 Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me!
Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
21 May integrity and uprightness preserve me,
for I wait for you.
22 Redeem Israel, O God,
out of all his troubles.
Read It Again
Notice David’s repeated requests:
Make me know.
Teach me.
Lead me.
Remember Your mercy.
Forgive me.
Ask:
Am I genuinely teachable?
Where am I asking God for direction while resisting correction?
What past failure do I need to place beneath God’s mercy?
What does humility have to do with guidance?
Am I willing to change direction if God’s path differs from mine?
Pursuing His Heart
Today’s Revelation of God’s Heart
God’s heart is merciful and instructive; He guides humble people who trust Him enough to be taught.
David does not approach God pretending to have life figured out.
He comes as a student.
Teach me.
Those may be two of the strongest words a mature believer can pray.
Immaturity assumes.
Pride insists.
Fear resists.
Wisdom asks:
Teach me.
David also brings his past.
He remembers the sins of his youth.
He needs direction for tomorrow…
but grace for yesterday.
God provides both.
Psalm 25 repeatedly connects guidance with humility.
Why?
Because proud people are difficult to teach.
A person after God’s own heart never graduates from being a disciple.
You may lead others.
You may have experience.
You may have knowledge.
You may have walked with God for decades.
You still need to pray:
Teach me Your path.
Look at the movement of these last ten Daily Journeys.
God became our portion.
We discovered we are kept.
We remembered how He delivered.
We listened as He revealed Himself.
We learned to trust.
We celebrated victory.
We cried through lament.
We followed the Shepherd.
We opened our lives to the King of glory.
And now…
we become teachable.
That is what spiritual maturity looks like.
Not finally knowing everything.
But increasingly trusting the One who does.
Seeing Jesus
Jesus is not merely a teacher of God’s way.
He is the Way.
Following Christ means more than mastering principles.
It means walking with a person.
Through Jesus, our past receives forgiveness.
Our present receives grace.
Our future receives direction.
Grace frees us from pretending we already know everything.
Disciples are learners.
And following Jesus means remaining one for life.
Truths to Hold Onto
Teachable hearts ask God for direction.
Humility and guidance belong together.
God’s mercy addresses our past.
God’s truth directs our future.
Maturity does not eliminate dependence.
Jesus is both our Savior and our Way.
Life Application
Where might God be trying to teach you something you’ve been too certain to hear?
Walking Deeper
Proverbs 3:5–6 — God directs those who trust Him rather than depending solely upon themselves.
John 14:6 — Jesus declares Himself to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
James 1:5 — God generously gives wisdom to those who ask Him.
Prayer Prompt
Lord, make me teachable. Forgive my past, guide my present, and direct my future. Keep me humble enough to listen, courageous enough to obey, and patient enough to follow Your timing. Amen.
Today’s Step
Before making an important decision today, stop.
Do not begin with:
“Here’s what I think I should do.”
Begin with:
“Lord, teach me Your way.”
Then become quiet enough to listen.
❤️ Heart Check
Head
Do I truly believe God’s way is wiser than mine?
Heart
Where has pride made me resistant to correction?
Hands
What instruction from God do I already understand but still need to obey?
Reflect. Evolve. Lead.
Reflect
A wise heart never stops being teachable.
Evolve
Humility allows God’s truth to correct my assumptions and redirect my steps.
Lead
Today I will remain a learner even while leading others, remembering that I am always first a disciple.
Carry This With You
Before asking God to bless your way, ask Him to teach you His.
Listen.
Learn.
Follow.
Tomorrow’s Journey
Today you asked God to show you His ways.
Tomorrow, Psalm 26 will ask what happens when we actually begin walking them.
Guidance eventually becomes integrity.
What God teaches in the heart must become visible in the life.
The journey continues from knowing His path…
to walking it faithfully.
Until tomorrow…keep walking with Him.
One Daily Journey. One Psalm. One surrendered heart. One step closer to His heart.
