GLORY
Daily Journey 24
GLORY
Make Room for the King
Theme
The Shepherd who walks beside us is also the King who owns everything. He does not merely want a place in our lives—He deserves the throne.
Pause
Yesterday, Psalm 23 reminded us that God walks beside us.
Today, Psalm 24 reminds us who that Shepherd actually is.
The King of glory.
Sometimes familiarity with God’s nearness can cause us to forget His majesty.
Psalm 24 restores both.
He is close.
And He is King.
Before reading, ask yourself:
Have I invited God into my life—or surrendered my life to Him?
Prayer
King of glory, everything belongs to You, including me. Cleanse my hands, purify my heart, and remove every rival throne within me. Open every closed place and reign fully in my life. Amen.
Scripture
Today’s Psalm invites us to recognize God’s ownership, examine our hearts, and open every gate of our lives to the King of glory.
Psalm 24
The King of Glory
A Psalm of David.
The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof,[a]
the world and those who dwell therein,
2 for he has founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.
3 Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to what is false
and does not swear deceitfully.
5 He will receive blessing from the Lord
and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.[b] Selah
7 Lift up your heads, O gates!
And be lifted up, O ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
8 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle!
9 Lift up your heads, O gates!
And lift them up, O ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
he is the King of glory! Selah
Read It Again
Notice the three movements.
God owns.
God calls.
God enters.
Ask:
What am I treating as mine that actually belongs to God?
What does a clean heart look like in my life?
Is there any gate I have kept closed to His authority?
Have I become comfortable with God as Shepherd while resisting Him as King?
Pursuing His Heart
Today’s Revelation of God’s Heart
God’s heart is holy and glorious; the King who owns everything desires hearts fully open to His reign.
Psalm 24 begins with ownership.
The earth is the Lord’s.
That includes everything.
Our possessions.
Our influence.
Our bodies.
Our time.
Our gifts.
Our opportunities.
Our lives.
We are stewards, not owners.
Then David asks who may stand before this holy God.
Clean hands.
Pure heart.
Truthful devotion.
The King is gracious.
But He is not casual.
His holiness should reshape us.
Then the Psalm becomes a coronation.
Lift up your heads, O gates.
Make room.
The King is coming.
That becomes today’s invitation too.
Open the places you have guarded.
The ambition.
The wound.
The relationship.
The finances.
The future.
The secret.
The plan.
The Shepherd who has walked with you now asks to reign over you.
Open the gate.
Seeing Jesus
Jesus is the King of glory.
He is not asking to become an accessory to our lives.
He is Lord.
The appropriate response to His grace is surrender.
The One who laid down His life for us is worthy of receiving all of ours.
Truths to Hold Onto
Everything ultimately belongs to God.
Holiness involves both outward action and inward motive.
God deserves undivided devotion.
Jesus is King, not merely helper.
Surrender means opening every part of life to His authority.
Life Application
Which gate in your life is hardest for you to open completely to God?
Walking Deeper
1 Chronicles 29:11–14 — Everything in heaven and earth belongs to God.
Matthew 5:8 — Jesus blesses the pure in heart.
Revelation 19:16 — Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords.
Prayer Prompt
King of glory, I surrender every part of my life to You. Purify what is divided, cleanse what is compromised, and reign where I have resisted You. Everything I am belongs to You. Amen.
Today’s Step
Write:
“Open Gates.”
Underneath, list any area you have been reluctant to surrender.
Choose one.
Pray:
“King Jesus, enter here too.”
Then act accordingly.
❤️ Heart Check
Head
Do I really believe everything belongs to God?
Heart
What rival affection competes for the throne?
Hands
What concrete act of surrender can I make today?
Reflect. Evolve. Lead.
Reflect
God is Owner and King; I am steward and servant.
Evolve
Surrender becomes freedom when I trust the heart of the King.
Lead
Today I will steward influence as something entrusted by God rather than something owned by me.
Carry This With You
Jesus does not want a room in your kingdom. He is inviting you to live fully in His.
Tomorrow’s Journey
Today you opened the gates to the King of glory.
Tomorrow, Psalm 25 gives us the natural prayer of a surrendered heart:
“Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths.”
Once the King reigns, we no longer ask Him simply to bless where we are going.
We ask:
Where do You want me to walk?
Until tomorrow…keep walking with Him.
One Daily Journey. One Psalm. One surrendered heart. One step closer to His heart.
