TRUST

Daily Journey 20

TRUST

When Strength Is Not Enough

Theme: What you reach for first in a crisis often reveals what you believe has the power to save you.

Pause

God has revealed Himself.

Now comes the test.

Will we trust Him?

We all have our version of chariots and horses.

Money.

Influence.

Experience.

Position.

Connections.

Intelligence.

Planning.

None of those things is automatically wrong.

The problem begins when resources become saviors.

Prayer

Father, reveal every place where I have trusted Your gifts more than I trust You. Teach me to use every resource wisely without allowing anything to replace my dependence upon You. My confidence belongs in Your name. Amen.

Scripture

Today’s Psalm invites us to place our deepest confidence not in visible human strength but in the name and character of God.

Psalm 20

Trust in the Name of the Lord Our God

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble!
May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!

2 May he send you help from the sanctuary
and give you support from Zion!

3 May he remember all your offerings
and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah

4 May he grant you your heart's desire
    and fulfill all your plans!

5 May we shout for joy over your salvation,
and in the name of our God set up our banners!
May the Lord fulfill all your petitions!

6 Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed;
he will answer him from his holy heaven
with the saving might of his right hand.

7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

8 They collapse and fall,
but we rise and stand upright.

9 O Lord, save the king!
May he answer us when we call.

Read It Again

Notice the contrast.

Some trust in what they can see.

David’s people trust in the Lord.

Ask:

  • What are my chariots and horses?

  • What do I reach for first when trouble comes?

  • Do my prayers reveal genuine dependence upon God?

  • Have useful resources become false sources of security?

Pursuing His Heart

Today’s Revelation of God’s Heart

God’s heart is trustworthy; He invites His people to rely upon His name above every earthly source of strength.

Human strength is attractive because it is visible.

God often asks us to trust what cannot be seen.

David understood the usefulness of military strength.

But he also understood its limits.

Chariots break.

Horses fall.

Plans fail.

Money disappears.

Connections change.

People disappoint.

God remains.

Maturity is not rejecting resources.

It is refusing to worship them.

We use what God places in our hands.

But we trust the One whose hands hold us.

Psalm 19 revealed God’s truth.

Psalm 20 asks us to act upon it.

Do we merely believe God is trustworthy?

Or do we actually trust Him when strength is not enough?

Seeing Jesus

Jesus never built His kingdom through worldly power.

He rejected the temptation to grasp earthly authority on Satan’s terms.

His greatest victory came through what looked like weakness:

the cross.

The world saw defeat.

God accomplished salvation.

Christ reminds us that God’s strength often works in ways human wisdom would never choose.

Truths to Hold Onto

  • Earthly strength has limits.

  • Resources are tools, not saviors.

  • Prayer reveals dependence.

  • God’s name represents His trustworthy character.

  • God’s greatest victories may come through unexpected means.

Life Application

What are you asking God to do while secretly believing it can only happen if your resources are sufficient?

Walking Deeper

  • Proverbs 3:5–6 — Trust God rather than depending entirely upon our own understanding.

  • Zechariah 4:6 — God’s work is not ultimately accomplished by human might or power.

  • 1 Corinthians 1:25 — God’s apparent weakness is stronger than human strength.

Prayer Prompt

Lord, I surrender every false source of security. Thank You for every resource You have given me, but keep me from confusing the gift with the Giver. My confidence is in You. Amen.

Today’s Step

Name one “chariot” in your life.

Then pray:

“God, thank You for this resource, but it is not my Savior. You are.”

❤️ Heart Check

Head

Where does real security come from?

Heart

What resource am I tempted to trust more than God?

Hands

What would dependence upon God look like in one decision today?

Reflect. Evolve. Lead.

Reflect

Resources may assist me, but only God deserves my ultimate trust.

Evolve

As dependence deepens, control loses its grip.

Lead

Today I will use resources responsibly while modeling humble dependence upon God.

Carry This With You

Use what God puts in your hands, but never confuse the resource with the One who saves.

Tomorrow’s Journey

Today you chose trust before the outcome was known.

Tomorrow, Psalm 21 shows us what happens when the answer comes.

The prayer of Psalm 20 becomes the praise of Psalm 21.

And we will face another spiritual test:

Can we receive victory without forgetting who gave it?

Until tomorrow…keep walking with Him.

One Daily Journey. One Psalm. One surrendered heart. One step closer to His heart.
