VICTORY
Daily Journey 21
VICTORY
When the Answer Comes
Theme
Trust prays before the battle. Gratitude remembers God after the victory.
Pause
Yesterday, Psalm 20 taught us where to place our trust before the battle.
Today, Psalm 21 celebrates after the answer comes.
We often pray desperately when we need something.
But what happens after God responds?
Do we remember?
Or does blessing quietly convince us that we did it ourselves?
Prayer
Father, teach me to celebrate Your goodness without allowing blessing to create pride. When victory comes, turn my gratitude toward You. Keep me as dependent after the answer as I was before it. Amen.
Scripture
Today’s Psalm invites us to celebrate God’s strength, answered prayer, and blessing while remembering that every victory has a source.
Psalm 21
The King Rejoices in the Lord's Strength
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
O Lord, in your strength the king rejoices,
and in your salvation how greatly he exults!
2 You have given him his heart's desire
and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah
3 For you meet him with rich blessings;
you set a crown of fine gold upon his head.
4 He asked life of you; you gave it to him,
length of days forever and ever.
5 His glory is great through your salvation;
splendor and majesty you bestow on him.
6 For you make him most blessed forever;[a]
you make him glad with the joy of your presence.
7 For the king trusts in the Lord,
and through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be moved.
8 Your hand will find out all your enemies;
your right hand will find out those who hate you.
9 You will make them as a blazing oven
when you appear.
The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
and fire will consume them.
10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth,
and their offspring from among the children of man.
11 Though they plan evil against you,
though they devise mischief, they will not succeed.
12 For you will put them to flight;
you will aim at their faces with your bows.
13 Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength!
We will sing and praise your power.
Read It Again
Notice the joy.
Then notice where David places the credit:
Your strength.
Your salvation.
You have given.
Ask:
How do I respond when God answers?
Have blessings ever made me less dependent upon Him?
Do I turn victories into worship?
Have I thanked God as passionately as I asked Him?
Pursuing His Heart
Today’s Revelation of God’s Heart
God’s heart delights in strengthening His people, answering according to His purposes, and receiving the praise that rightly follows His faithfulness.
Psalm 20 prayed.
Psalm 21 praises.
That rhythm matters.
Request.
Trust.
Answer.
Thanksgiving.
Many of us are skilled at the first step.
We know how to ask.
We may even learn to trust while waiting.
But gratitude can become strangely quiet once the crisis passes.
David refuses to let that happen.
The king rejoices…
in God’s strength.
Not his own.
Success becomes spiritually dangerous when it convinces us we no longer need the God we depended upon during struggle.
The right response to blessing is not independence.
It is deeper worship.
Yesterday, we learned not to trust chariots.
Today, we learn not to take credit when God gives the victory.
Seeing Jesus
Psalm 21 ultimately points beyond any earthly king.
Jesus is the victorious King.
His triumph over sin and death is complete.
And because we belong to Him, His victory becomes the foundation of our hope.
Human victories fade.
Christ’s reign does not.
Truths to Hold Onto
Answered prayer deserves thanksgiving.
Success should deepen dependence rather than create pride.
God is the source behind every genuine blessing.
Gratitude protects our hearts after victory.
Christ’s victory is ultimate and eternal.
Life Application
Have you thanked God as intentionally after the answer as you prayed before it came?
Walking Deeper
Deuteronomy 8:10–18 — Blessing can tempt us to forget its source.
Luke 17:11–19 — Only one healed man returns to give thanks.
1 Corinthians 15:57 — God gives us victory through Jesus Christ.
Prayer Prompt
Lord, thank You for every answered prayer and every victory. Protect me from pride. Let blessing increase my worship rather than decrease my dependence. Amen.
Today’s Step
Identify one answered prayer you have not recently thanked God for.
Stop.
Remember it.
Celebrate it.
Thank Him specifically.
❤️ Heart Check
Head
Who deserves credit for the blessings in my life?
Heart
Has success made me less dependent upon God?
Hands
How will I intentionally express gratitude today?
Reflect. Evolve. Lead.
Reflect
Every victory is another opportunity to remember grace.
Evolve
Gratitude protects success from becoming pride.
Lead
Today I will celebrate wins while intentionally honoring God and the people He used along the way.
Carry This With You
Never let the blessing make you forget the One you begged for it.
Tomorrow’s Journey
Today you celebrated victory.
Tomorrow, the tone changes dramatically.
Psalm 22 begins with a cry that will echo all the way to the cross:
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
The journey after God’s heart includes mountaintops.
It also includes darkness.
Tomorrow we’ll discover that faith can still cry “My God” even while asking “Why?”
Until tomorrow…keep walking with Him.
One Daily Journey. One Psalm. One surrendered heart. One step closer to His heart.
