UNSHAKEN
When the Foundations Crumble
Theme: When everything around you feels unstable, remember that God’s throne has never moved.
Pause
What feels uncertain right now?
Your family?
Your work?
Your finances?
Your future?
Your world?
Psalm 11 asks a haunting question:
“If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
David’s answer begins by looking higher.
Prayer
Father, when everything around me feels uncertain, remind me that You remain unchanged. Keep me from allowing fear to determine my decisions. Help me remember that You are still on Your throne. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Scripture
Today’s Psalm invites us to discover that when earthly foundations shake, God’s sovereign presence remains completely secure.
Psalm 11
The Lord Is in His Holy Temple
To the choirmaster. Of David.
In the Lord I take refuge;
how can you say to my soul,
Flee like a bird to your mountain,
2 for behold, the wicked bend the bow;
they have fitted their arrow to the string
to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart;
3 if the foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do?[a]
4 The Lord is in his holy temple;
the Lord's throne is in heaven;
his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man.
5 The Lord tests the righteous,
but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.
6 Let him rain coals on the wicked;
fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.
7 For the Lord is righteous;
he loves righteous deeds;
the upright shall behold his face.
Read It Again
Notice the contrast:
Earthly foundations may crumble.
But:
“The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven.”
Ask:
What foundation have I been depending upon?
What am I afraid of losing?
How does God’s sovereignty change my perspective?
Pursuing His Heart
Today’s Revelation of God’s Heart
God’s heart is steadfast and righteous; His throne remains secure when everything else shakes.
Carry this truth with you throughout today’s journey.
David is being told to run.
Escape.
Protect yourself.
Everything is collapsing.
But David begins:
“In the Lord I take refuge.”
His security isn’t rooted in stable circumstances.
It is rooted in a sovereign God.
Foundations matter.
But sometimes the things we believed were permanent change.
Jobs disappear.
Relationships shift.
Plans collapse.
Institutions fail.
Seasons end.
And suddenly we discover whether our foundation was beneath those things—or beneath God.
Psalm 11 redirects our eyes toward heaven.
God hasn’t moved.
His throne hasn’t cracked.
His character hasn’t changed.
The shaking around you does not mean there is instability within Him.
Seeing Jesus
Jesus taught about two houses.
Both encountered storms.
One stood.
One fell.
The difference was foundation.
Christ does not promise storm-free lives.
He offers Himself as the foundation strong enough to withstand them.
When everything else changes, Jesus remains.
Truths to Hold Onto
God’s throne remains secure.
Fear does not have to determine my response.
Earthly foundations can fail.
God remains righteous and sovereign.
Refuge is found in God, not circumstances.
Life Application
If what you’re depending upon disappeared tomorrow, would your faith remain standing?
Walking Deeper
Psalm 46:1–3 — God remains our refuge even when creation itself seems to shake.
Matthew 7:24–27 — Jesus teaches us to build our lives upon an unshakable foundation.
Hebrews 12:28 — Through Christ we receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken.
Prayer Prompt
Lord, expose every false foundation beneath my life. Teach me to build my security upon You alone. When circumstances shake, steady my heart with the truth that You remain on Your throne. Amen.
Today’s Step
Identify one thing you fear losing.
Ask yourself:
“Have I made this my foundation?”
Then intentionally surrender it to God.
❤️ Heart Check
Head
What does God’s sovereignty mean for my current uncertainty?
Heart
What am I afraid will collapse?
Hands
What decision would look different today if I truly believed God remains on His throne?
Reflect. Evolve. Lead.
Reflect
My security cannot rest upon circumstances that can change.
Evolve
As my confidence moves from circumstances to God, I become steadier during uncertainty.
Lead
Today I will bring stability to others by responding to uncertainty with faith rather than fear.
Carry This With You
When the foundations shake, look again—the throne hasn’t moved.
Tomorrow’s Journey
Today you discovered an unshakable God.
Tomorrow, we’ll confront the power of something that can deeply wound us:
words.
We’ll discover that God hears every lie, every boast, and every cry for truth.
Until tomorrow…keep walking with Him.
One Daily Journey. One Psalm. One surrendered heart. One step closer to His heart.
