Caught in a Circle: A 60-Day Devotional Through Ecclesiastes
Caught in a Circle
A 60-Day Devotional Through Ecclesiastes
Introduction: Caught in a Circle
Scripture:
“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” — Ecclesiastes 1:9 (NIV)
Reflection:
Most people don’t realize they’re living in a circle—they just feel it.
The repetition.
The striving.
The quiet question: “Is this really it?”
You wake up, go to work, solve problems, make progress… and then do it all again. Even the milestones that once felt meaningful can begin to feel mechanical. What once brought excitement now feels expected. What once felt like purpose can start to feel like pressure.
This is the tension the writer of Ecclesiastes refuses to ignore.
He observes life honestly and comes to a sobering realization: life under the sun—life lived without an eternal perspective—becomes cyclical, repetitive, and ultimately unsatisfying.
Not because life has no value.
But because we keep asking temporary things to give us eternal meaning.
That’s the circle.
We chase success… and still want more.
We pursue control… and still feel uncertain.
We seek satisfaction… and still feel empty.
So we try again. Harder. Smarter. Faster.
But the pattern repeats.
This devotional is about waking up within that cycle.
Because the message of Ecclesiastes is not that nothing matters—it’s that we’re looking in the wrong place.
You were never meant to build your life on what constantly changes.
You were never meant to carry the weight of creating your own meaning.
There is a way to live in the same world… but not stuck in the same cycle.
But it begins with honesty.
Observation:
Life under the sun becomes cyclical when disconnected from eternal purpose.
Repetition often exposes misplaced meaning.
Awareness is the first step toward transformation.
Life Application:
Where in your life do you feel stuck in a cycle—and how have you been trying to escape it?
Scripture Connections:

Prayer Prompt:
Lord, help me see my life clearly. Reveal the cycles I’ve been living in and the ways I’ve been searching for meaning apart from You.
Action Step:
Write down one repeating pattern in your life and ask what you’re hoping it will give you.
