DAY 21 — THE HEART THAT GROWS NUMB

Reflection
One of the most dangerous spiritual conditions in today’s world is not outright rebellion—it is gradual numbness.
We live in a culture constantly overstimulated but spiritually under-responsive. We hear truth in sermons, podcasts, videos, and conversations—but hearing alone does not guarantee response.
“Take care… lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart…” (Hebrews 3:12)
Numbness doesn’t happen suddenly. It develops slowly through repeated exposure to truth without action, conviction without change, and awareness without repentance.
Ephesians describes it as becoming “callous.” A callous forms when repeated friction removes sensitivity.
Spiritually, this looks like:
hearing the truth but not responding
feeling conviction but ignoring it
being surrounded by God’s Word but unchanged by it
“Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” (Psalm 95:7–8)
God is still speaking—the question is whether we are still sensitive.
Application
Where have I become spiritually numb or slow to respond to God’s voice?
Prayer
Lord, soften my heart again. Restore sensitivity to Your voice and conviction.
