Renewed Courage
Day 18 – Renewed Courage
Scripture Focus: Joshua 1:9 (KJV)
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
How God Renews Our Courage
1. Courage Is a Command Rooted in God’s Presence
God does not suggest courage—He commands it. This command is not based on Joshua’s confidence or ability, but on God’s promise of presence. Courage is not the absence of fear; it is obedience anchored in the assurance that God is with us.
In today’s world, courage is often framed as self-belief or bold personality. Biblical courage is different. It flows from knowing we are not facing challenges alone. Renewal begins when courage is rooted not in our strength, but in God’s nearness.
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” (Psalm 27:1)
2. Fear Grows When Focus Shifts Away From God
Fear intensifies when obstacles dominate our vision. God renews courage by redirecting focus from what stands before us to Who stands with us.
Modern life amplifies fear through uncertainty, pressure, and constant comparison. Courage returns when we intentionally shift our attention back to God’s authority and promises.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
3. Courage Is Required to Move Forward in Obedience
Joshua was called to lead before he felt ready. Courage was necessary to step into responsibility, not after everything felt secure. God often renews courage at the moment obedience is required—not before.
Today, many wait for fear to disappear before acting. Scripture teaches that courage appears as we move, not while we hesitate.
“Be strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law.” (Joshua 1:7)
4. Courage Is Sustained by God’s Faithfulness Over Time
Courage is not a one-time decision; it is a posture sustained by remembering God’s faithfulness. Each act of obedience strengthens courage for the next challenge.
Renewed courage grows when we recall past victories and recognize God’s consistent presence through them.
“If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)
