DECEMBER 29: LOVE THAT CAME DOWN AND REMAINS

Scripture Reading: John 1:14 (KJV)
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Devotional:

Love did not merely visit the world at Christmas—it took up residence. John tells us that the Word dwelt among us, meaning God chose to live with His people, to remain near, to enter fully into the human experience. Christmas is not the story of a distant God sending help from afar; it is the story of a present God drawing close.

The miracle of Christmas is not only that Christ came down, but that He stayed. He stayed through hardship, misunderstanding, rejection, suffering, and ultimately the cross. His love is not seasonal or conditional. It is steadfast, intentional, and enduring.

This truth matters deeply as the calendar moves forward. When the decorations come down and the celebrations fade, God’s presence does not diminish. His love does not retreat. The same grace that entered the world in Bethlehem walks with us into every ordinary day that follows.

Christ is described as being full of grace and truth.

Grace meets us in our weakness.

Truth anchors us when life feels uncertain.

Together, they reveal a love strong enough to forgive, patient enough to remain, and powerful enough to transform.

As we near the close of the year, we are reminded that God’s love is not tied to moments of joy alone—it abides with us in growth, in struggle, and in hope.

The love that came down at Christmas is the love that carries us forward.

Reflection:
How does knowing that God’s love remains—unchanging and present—shape the way you face the days ahead?

Closing Prayer:

Abiding God,

Thank You for the miracle of Your nearness. Thank You that Your love did not simply arrive at Christmas, but chose to remain with us.

Help us to live with confidence in Your presence. When we feel alone, remind us that You dwell with us. When we feel unworthy, surround us with Your grace. When we feel uncertain, ground us in Your truth.

As this year draws to a close, let us rest in the assurance that Your love is steady, faithful, and unchanging. May we walk forward knowing that we are never without You.

We welcome Your presence.

We trust Your love.

We walk in Your grace.

In the name of Jesus,

Amen.
