“I Will Redeem”: Choosing the Cost of Covenant
Day 25 – “I Will Redeem”: Choosing the Cost of Covenant
Scripture:
“Then Boaz announced to the elders and all the people, ‘Today you are witnesses that I have bought from Naomi all the property of Elimelek, Kilion and Mahlon. I have also acquired Ruth the Moabite, Mahlon’s widow, as my wife, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property… Today you are witnesses!’”
— Ruth 4:9–10 (NIV)
Reflection
What the nearer redeemer refused, Boaz publicly embraces.
Boaz does not hesitate.
He does not negotiate the cost.
He does not distance himself from Ruth’s past.
He names her.
He claims her.
He commits fully.
Notice how intentionally Boaz speaks: “Today you are witnesses.” Redemption is no longer private hope—it is public covenant. Boaz accepts the land, the responsibility, the legacy, and the woman. Redemption always includes people, not just benefits.
In the Book of Ruth, Boaz becomes a living picture of God’s heart: willing to redeem fully, legally, sacrificially, and publicly.
Observation
True redemption is chosen, not forced
Covenant always involves responsibility and sacrifice
God-honoring commitment stands up to public scrutiny
Love rooted in obedience transforms legacy
Boaz does not redeem Ruth in spite of the cost—he redeems her accepting the cost.
Life Application
God’s call often comes with a clear question:
Are you willing to say yes when obedience costs you something?
Ask yourself:
Am I counting the cost—or avoiding it?
Do I want God’s blessing without God’s responsibility?
Am I willing to be publicly identified with God’s purposes?
Redemption always requires more than agreement—it requires commitment.
Scripture Connections
Isaiah 43:1 — “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”
John 10:11 — “The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
Romans 5:8 — “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Prayer Prompt
Lord, give me a heart like Boaz—willing to obey fully and publicly.
Help me say yes to You, even when obedience costs me something.
Thank You for being a Redeemer who did not hesitate to choose me.
Action Step
Reflect on one area where God is asking for full commitment, not partial obedience. Write the words:
“Today I choose obedience.”
Pray it sincerely and act on it this week.
