When You Recognize God’s Hand at Work

Day 14 – When You Recognize God’s Hand at Work

Scripture:

“Her mother-in-law asked her, ‘Where did you glean today? Where did you work? Blessed be the man who took notice of you!’ Then Ruth told her mother-in-law about the one at whose place she had been working. ‘The name of the man I worked with today is Boaz,’ she said.

‘The Lord bless him!’ Naomi said to her daughter-in-law. ‘He has not stopped showing his kindness to the living and the dead.’ She added, ‘That man is our close relative; he is one of our guardian-redeemers.’” — Ruth 2:19–20 (NIV)

Reflection

This is a turning point.

For the first time since returning from Moab, Naomi’s language changes. The woman who once said, “The Lord has brought me back empty” now recognizes that God has been working behind the scenes all along.

The moment Ruth says the name Boaz—which means “strength is in him”—everything shifts. What looked like coincidence is revealed as providence. What felt like survival is now recognized as God’s kindness.

Naomi realizes something powerful:

God didn’t abandon her in Moab.

God didn’t forget her in her grief.

God was positioning redemption before she even knew to ask for it.

Sometimes God’s provision only becomes clear after we tell the story.

Observation

  • Recognition often follows obedience, not before it

  • God’s kindness extends to both “the living and the dead”

  • What feels random is often deeply intentional

  • Perspective changes when we see God’s hand instead of only our hardship

Naomi’s faith begins to awaken when she connects God’s past promises with present provision.

Life Application

How often do we miss God’s hand because we are focused on what we lost instead of what He is restoring?

Take time today to look back over recent events:

  • A conversation

  • An opportunity

  • A relationship

  • A provision that arrived “just in time”

Ask yourself:

Could this be God’s kindness unfolding in ways I didn’t expect?

When you recognize God’s hand, praise replaces bitterness—and hope is reborn.

Scripture Connections

  • Psalm 103:2 — “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”

  • Lamentations 3:31–32 — “For no one is cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love.”

  • Romans 11:33 — “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!”

Prayer Prompt

Lord, open my eyes to see Your hand at work in my life.

Forgive me for the times I mistook Your silence for absence.

Help me recognize Your kindness—past, present, and unfolding—

and respond with gratitude, trust, and renewed faith.

Action Step

  • Write down three ways God has provided for you recently—even small ones.

  • Speak them aloud as an act of praise.

  • Let recognition turn into worship today.

Key Takeaways for Day 14

  1. God is working even when you don’t recognize it yet

  2. Perspective changes when you see provision instead of pain

  3. God’s kindness covers both your past losses and future hope

  4. Recognition is often the doorway to renewed faith
