Faith in Action: Working Where God Leads

Day 9 – Faith in Action: Working Where God Leads

Scripture:

“Now Naomi had a relative on her husband’s side, a man of standing from the clan of Elimelek, whose name was Boaz. And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, ‘Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.’ Naomi said to her, ‘Go ahead, my daughter.’” — Ruth 2:1–2 (NIV)

Reflection:

Ruth does not wait passively for God’s provision—she takes intentional action. She chooses to go to the fields to glean, trusting God to meet her needs. Her humility, diligence, and willingness to work in faith demonstrate that God honors initiative when combined with obedience and trust.

Boaz, whose name means “Strength is in Him,” is introduced as a relative of Naomi’s late husband and a man of standing. This introduces the theme of God’s providence through relationships. God often provides for our needs through people we might not expect—but we have to take faithful steps toward Him first.

Observation:

  • Faithful action often precedes God’s visible blessing.

  • God positions people, like Boaz, to be instruments of provision.

  • Initiative, diligence, and humility in our work reflect trust in God.

Life Application:

Are you waiting for blessings to fall into your lap, or are you taking the steps God has placed before you? Ruth teaches us that trust and action go hand in hand—we walk by faith, but we also move our feet.

Scripture Connections:

  • James 2:17 – “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

  • Colossians 3:23 – “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

  • Proverbs 16:3 – “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”

Prayer Prompt:

Lord, give me the courage to take faithful steps in the areas You have placed before me. Teach me to work diligently and humbly, trusting that You will provide and open doors according to Your perfect plan.

Action Step:

Identify one practical step you can take today toward a goal, need, or calling where you’ve been waiting passively. Take that step with prayerful trust, knowing God sees your obedience and will provide.

Key Takeaways for Day 9:

  1. Faith requires both trust and action.

  2. God often provides through people and opportunities positioned along our path.

  3. Humility, diligence, and obedience are essential in walking by faith.

  4. Taking the first step opens the door for God’s blessing.
