Scripture

Matthew 7:13–14

Reflection

Jesus does not begin with comfort—He begins with clarity.

“Enter through the narrow gate…” (Matthew 7:13)

This is not a suggestion. It is a command. And it immediately confronts one of the most widely accepted beliefs in our culture—that all paths are equally valid as long as they are sincerely followed.

But Scripture does not support that idea.

In Proverbs, we are told:

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” (Proverbs 14:12)

And Jesus Himself declares:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)

This means something critical:

• Sincerity is not enough

• Effort is not enough

• Good intentions are not enough

There is one way, and it is narrow.

The wide path is appealing because it requires nothing:

• no surrender

• no repentance

• no transformation

It accommodates every version of truth and allows people to define God on their own terms.

But the narrow path demands something different:

• humility

• submission

• obedience

It requires that we deny ourselves and follow Christ—not reshape Him to fit our preferences.

The most dangerous place to be is not far from God—it is believing you are close when you are not.

That is why Jesus warns:

“Many enter through it…” (Matthew 7:13)

Many lack belief—not alignment with truth.

The narrow path is not found by accident.
It is chosen intentionally, daily, and often against the pull of culture, comfort, and even religion.

Challenge

Am I following Jesus as He is revealed in Scripture—or have I accepted a version of faith that feels right but avoids surrender?

Prayer

Lord, open my eyes to what is true, not just what is familiar or comfortable. Give me the courage to walk the narrow path, even when it is difficult or unpopular. Align my heart with Your truth, and do not let me settle for anything less than real faith.
