Your Life Is Not Self-Assigned
Day 1: Your Life Is Not Self-Assigned
Scripture:
“Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother.” — Colossians 1:1 (NIV)
Reflection:
Paul opens not with credentials, but with a calling—“by the will of God.” Before he addresses the church, he establishes a foundational truth: his life is not self-directed; it is God-appointed.
This is where true spiritual growth begins. Many live reacting to pressure, expectations, or opportunities, but not calling. That leads to exhaustion, confusion, and misalignment. Paul reminds us that identity and assignment are not discovered through ambition, but through surrender.
To say “by the will of God” means:
Your life is not random
Your role is not accidental
Your purpose is not self-created
Before Paul ever planted churches or wrote letters, he was interrupted by Christ (Acts 9). His entire life shifted—not because he made a better plan, but because he submitted to God’s plan.
Growth in Christ requires this same surrender. You cannot fully grow if you are still trying to control your direction. Many want God to bless their plans, but maturity comes when you lay your plans down and ask, “Lord, what is Your will?”
This also brings freedom. If your life is rooted in God’s will:
You are no longer driven by comparison
You are no longer paralyzed by fear of failure
You are no longer chasing approval
You are simply walking in obedience.
Observation:
Calling comes from God, not personal ambition.
Spiritual growth begins with surrender to God’s will.
Identity must be settled before the assignment is fulfilled.
Life Application:
Are you living according to God’s will—or reacting to pressure, expectations, or fear?
Scripture Connections:
Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…”
Romans 12:2 – “Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is…”
Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord…he will make your paths straight.”
Prayer Prompt:
Lord, I surrender my plans, my timeline, and my expectations to You. Align my life with Your will and give me the courage to walk in it.
Action Step:
Write down one area of your life where you have been trying to stay in control. Surrender it to God in prayer and ask Him to redirect you.
