Discovering His Goodness for Yourself
Theme
There is a difference between knowing that God is good and personally discovering His goodness in your own life.
Pause
Someone else’s testimony can encourage you.
But eventually, you must know God for yourself.
Prayer
Father, move my faith beyond secondhand knowledge. Help me taste and see Your goodness personally. Meet me in my fears, needs, disappointments, and desires until knowing You becomes experiential, not merely informational. Amen.
Scripture
Today’s Psalm invites us to move beyond secondhand faith and personally discover the goodness, nearness, provision, and protection of the Lord.
Psalm 34 (ESV)

Read It Again
Read Psalm 34 slowly a second time.
Notice the invitations and testimonies throughout the Psalm.
David blesses God.
He seeks God.
He cries out.
He invites others to discover God’s goodness.
He remembers that God is near to the brokenhearted.
Ask yourself:
● Where have I personally experienced God’s goodness?
● What fear do I need to bring to Him?
● Where is my heart broken or discouraged?
● Am I living on someone else’s testimony or developing my own?
Pursuing His Heart
Today’s Revelation of God’s Heart
God’s heart is good, attentive, near to the brokenhearted, and faithful to those who seek refuge in Him.
David does not say:
Take my word for it.
He says:
Taste and see.
Experience God.
Seek Him.
Cry out.
Take refuge.
Discover.
And Psalm 34 contains another precious truth:
God is near to the brokenhearted.
Our brokenness does not repel Him.
It draws His compassion.
Carry this truth with you throughout today’s journey.
Psalm 34 sounds like someone who wants others to experience what he has discovered.
David does not present faith as a theory.
He speaks as someone who sought God and was answered.
He knows fear.
He knows trouble.
He knows what it means to need refuge.
And from that experience comes invitation.
Faith becomes personal when truth moves from something we have heard about God to something we have learned with God.
That does not mean every experience feels pleasant.
One of the Psalm’s deepest assurances is that God draws near to broken hearts.
His goodness is not proven by the absence of pain.
Sometimes it is discovered through His presence within pain.
Seeing Jesus
In Jesus, God’s goodness becomes visible and approachable.
Christ invites people not merely to study Him from a distance but to:
Come.
Follow.
Abide.
Jesus makes the goodness of God visible in flesh and blood.
He welcomes the fearful, the needy, the ashamed, and the broken.
Following Christ is not merely agreeing with information about Him.
It is coming to Him, remaining with Him, and learning His goodness personally.
Truths to Hold Onto
● God invites personal trust, not merely secondhand belief.
● God hears those who seek and cry out to Him.
● God’s goodness can be discovered within difficult seasons.
● God is near to the brokenhearted.
● Refuge means bringing fear toward God rather than letting fear drive us away.
● Jesus invites us into a lived relationship with God.
Life Application
What truth about God do you know intellectually but need to trust personally?
Ask God to make that truth experiential in the place where you most need Him today.
Walking Deeper
● 1 Peter 2:2–3 — Peter uses the language of tasting God’s goodness as believers grow in grace.
● Matthew 11:28–30 — Jesus invites weary people to come to Him and find rest.
● 1 Peter 5:7 — We can place our anxieties upon God because His care is personal.
Prayer Prompt
Good Father, move my faith from secondhand knowledge into personal trust. Meet me in my fear, my need, and every broken place. Let me experience Your nearness so deeply that my life becomes an invitation for others to discover Your goodness too. Amen.
Today’s Step
Write: “I have tasted God’s goodness when…”
Complete the sentence three different ways from your own life.
Thank God for each memory.
Then share one of those stories with someone who needs encouragement.
❤️ Heart Check
Head
What does Psalm 34 reveal about God’s goodness and nearness?
Heart
Where do I most need to experience His care personally?
Hands
How can my testimony encourage someone else today?
Reflect. Evolve. Lead.
Reflect
Faith becomes stronger when truth about God becomes lived trust in God.
Evolve
As I recognize God’s goodness in my own story, gratitude and courage grow.
Lead
Today I will use my experience of God’s faithfulness to strengthen someone who is afraid or discouraged.
Carry This With You
God does not merely want you to know facts about His goodness. He invites you to experience it.
Tomorrow’s Journey
But experiencing God’s goodness does not mean everyone will treat us well.
Psalm 35 returns to opposition.
And David learns that when others fight against him, he can ask God to become his Defender.
