Put to Death the Old Self

Day 33: Put to Death the Old Self

Scripture:
“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature…” — Colossians 3:5a (NIV)

Reflection:
Transformation requires action. Growth in Christ involves active removal of sin. Paul calls it “putting to death,” emphasizing decisive separation from sinful habits.

Earthly nature includes:

  • Sexual immorality

  • Greed

  • Anger

  • Bitterness

Spiritual maturity demands intentional rejection of destructive patterns. A passive Christian life results in stagnation.

Observation:
Growth is active, not passive.
Old habits must be intentionally removed.
Spiritual maturity requires self-discipline.

Life Application:
Identify one habit or sin to actively “put to death” this week. Confess it, pray for power, and take concrete steps to remove it.

Scripture Connections:
Romans 6:6 – “…our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with…”
Ephesians 4:22-24 – “You were taught…to put off your old self…to be renewed in the spirit of your mind…”

Prayer Prompt:
Lord, give me the strength to actively put to death what is sinful in my life and embrace Your new life in me.

Action Step:
Write down one specific sinful pattern and take one practical step this week to break its hold.
