Renewed Compassion

Day 14 – Renewed Compassion

Scripture Focus: Colossians 3:12 (KJV)

“Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering.”

How God Renews Our Compassion

1. Compassion Reflects the Heart of God

Compassion is not weakness—it is Christlikeness. Throughout Scripture, compassion is a defining attribute of God Himself. When God renews compassion in us, He is shaping us to reflect His heart toward people.

In today’s culture, compassion is often mistaken for compromise or emotional softness. Biblically, compassion is strength under control—it moves us toward others without losing truth. Renewed compassion allows us to see people not as problems to solve, but as souls to love.

“The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.” (Psalm 145:8)

2. Hardness Develops Through Hurt, Not Design

No one becomes hard-hearted intentionally. Hardness develops through repeated disappointment, betrayal, and unhealed wounds. Over time, self-protection replaces empathy.

God renews compassion by healing what life has hardened. Renewal does not erase boundaries, but it restores tenderness without bitterness. Compassion flows most freely from hearts that have been healed, not defended.

Today, many carry justified pain that unintentionally restricts love. God invites us to bring that pain to Him so compassion can flow again.

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

3. Compassion Is a Daily, Intentional Choice

Scripture instructs us to “put on” compassion, like clothing. This implies intentionality. Compassion is not something we wait to feel—it is something we choose to practice.

In a hurried, distracted world, compassion requires slowing down and noticing others. Renewal happens when we choose kindness in moments where indifference would be easier.

“Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another.” (Ephesians 4:32)

4. Compassion Strengthens Community and Witness

Compassion does more than heal individuals—it restores relationships and builds unity. When compassion is renewed, community becomes safer, trust grows deeper, and God’s grace becomes visible through us.

In a divided world, compassion becomes a powerful testimony. People are often drawn to Christ not by arguments, but by love expressed through mercy and humility.

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” (John 13:35)

How We Align With Renewed Compassion

  • Choose kindness intentionally, especially when it is undeserved

  • Release resentment that restricts love

  • Ask God to help you see others through His mercy

  • Practice empathy without abandoning truth

Closing Reflection

A renewed heart expresses itself through renewed compassion.

What God heals within us, He often uses to heal others.

Devotional Practice

Extend kindness today where it may feel difficult or undeserved.

Guided Journaling

  • Where has disappointment hardened my heart?

  • Who might God be asking me to see with fresh compassion?

  • What step of kindness could soften my posture toward others?

Prayer

Lord, soften my heart where it has grown guarded. Heal what has been wounded, and renew my compassion so that I may reflect Your heart in how I love others. Amen.
